Getting started

Start simple

Pick a basic pattern. (Look here mit Gallery verlinken). If you enjoyed the the process, wonderful - from there only the sky is the limit. Nothing is more disheartening than a mountain of expensive wool waiting to be stitched into this gorgeous sweater, but all you get done is something odd.

By making small things you‘ll learn so much, and they won’t take forever to finish.

Get some inexpensive 100% cotton yarn…

…and make a dishcloth. Try fingering and DK and see how it comes out. Try out allover patterns, try out adding an i-cord, try out framing it with seed stitches, try out cast-ons and bind offs. When there’s a mistake, even a bad one, who cares! In the end you’ll wipe your kitchen counter with it and throw it in the washing machine with your towels. And chances are it’ll keep forever, much longer than the ones you bought in a shop - which is always a good thing. And if a visitor lets out a delighted squeak in your kitchen, you know what to get them for Christmas.

Baby Things

… or little decorative things won’t take forever and the yarn you choose is not super important. Try around to find out what interests you. Before soon you’ll feel ready to tackle bigger projects.
