Why Knit?
Yes - why? Industries local and abroad supply all we need, so what’s the point spending days, weeks, easily months, to produce an item that can be bought in seconds?
The knitting process itself can be relatively straightforward or insanely complicated. To a degree it is always repetitive. Sounds challenging? It can be, but it is also extremely rewarding in many ways. Some may call knitting boring or banal, but the repetitiveness of it all - the slowness - can help calm the hurricane of thoughts racing through our brains on any given day. It really is a form of meditation - all the while you are being productive making something beautiful emerge. Do give it a try to see if it works for you.
Many patterns date from centuries past, but are still in use, even on a large scale, by textile giants. They are so classic and joyful that they never go out of fashion - and you can make a dishcloth or towel sporting them. Something you cannot buy! Making something unique and lovely adds beauty to your home or wardrobe.
If you are generous you gift it to others, if they are deserving, that is… because what you give away is your very time become tangible, a little part of your life.
